Although my true (exercise) love is yoga, now that I’m over 40, the need for a little more strength training is in order. My arms are starting to grow wings, lol!

In all seriousness, as we age, we lose muscle. In fact, around the age of 20 is when we start to lose about ½ pound of muscle per year, usually due to inactivity.

Building muscle is important throughout our lives.

Building muscle actually helps to more effectively burn calories; muscle burns three times the amount of calories that fat burns. So if you want to increase your metabolism and keep the weight in check, start a regular routine of lifting light weights daily.

Two to three 20-minute sessions a week is all that is needed to maintain a muscle-strengthening program.

And if you’re really into multi-tasking, you can enroll in a yoga class that incorporates light weights, like Core Power Yoga. You know I had to add that one in there, right?
