So this may sound a little contradictory to yesterday’s post (Limit Processed Sugar), but stick with me here…
Yes, I’m a dietitian. Yes, I teach holistic health & wellness. Yes, I’m a naturalista. Yes, I walk my talk. But one thing I am NOT is rigid.
Rigid doesn’t always mean success.
I don’t believe in rigid, restrictive rules when it comes to eating (or anything else, for that matter). As a matter of fact, there’s scientific proof that following restrictive diets causes weight gain due to changes that occur in the brain’s chemistry. And if you’ve ever gone on a diet and it wasn’t a successful experience, you don’t need to know the science to know this is true.
So I practice, and preach, Eat What You Crave. Now this doesn’t mean you can go through life eating packages of Oreo cookies and boxes of Cheezits (2 of my favorites, by the way) and expect to achieve your health goals. What it does mean is that you shouldn’t ignore the cravings because the longer you ignore them, the stronger they get. Eat what you crave and move on to BETTER things.
Tip: The healthier you eat overall, the less cravings you’ll have.
Oh, and please, please, please eat without guilt. Enjoy the indulgence. It’s really not the end of the world, I promise.
