Earlier this week, I talked about the importance of water. Water is a NUTRIENT and a very important part of our bodily systems.

It’s Day 5 of our January journey of NOURISHING ourselves.

Warm lemon water?

Every morning, before I do anything else, I drink water. And if I sense the need for more than just plain water, I drink warm lemon water.

Here’s why that’s important.

In Ayurvedic practices, the belief is the first thing you ingest sets the tone for the day. Therefore, drinking a glass of warm water with fresh lemon is recommended, for 2 reasons:

1)   The warm water serves to stimulate the GI tract and peristalsis (the waves of muscle contractions in the intestinal walls that keep things moving);

2)   Fresh lemon juice is high in minerals & vitamins and helps to loosen toxins in the digestive tract.

So this is what I had this morning, and I encourage you to do the same, especially when you’ve had a little too MUCH the night before.
