Take a Look in the Mirror



Can I share a little secret with you? There was a time, not too long ago, when I really struggled with looking at myself in the mirror. I’m not talking about just from the neck up. I’m talking about full-body, naked, front and center.

I felt fat, not-so-sexy and somewhat ashamed of how I “let myself go” over the years.

Life can take a toll on you, and if you’re not careful, your body will reflect the emotional toll we’ve poorly handled over the years.

But thankfully, I quickly learned that something as simple as looking at yourself naked in the mirror can be a HELPFUL exercise in self-acceptance. There’s something very powerful that happens when you look in the mirror with loving, compassionate eyes, admiring the woman you’ve become.

When was the last time you did this without judgement?

It’s easy hide things with your clothes and obsess about whether you have too many lumps, rolls and other imperfections, but when you’re fully naked, you can really see you for YOU. Yes, at the start you’ll want to pick out every imperfection. You may even turn and walk away.

But you MUST do this. It’s a major step towards fully accepting yourself in the here and now, and being less judgmental of the skin you’re in.

Here’s the truth: Every fine line, stretch mark, varicose vein and pocket of cellulite has a story to tell. And if they could talk, they’d remind you of what a warrior you really are.

For me, the many stretch marks that cross my abdomen tell the story of birthing 3 strong, healthy young men into the world.

The varicose veins on my thighs tell the story of the strength that I have as I endured many struggles over the years and how my legs have carried me every step of the way.

What are you’re “imperfections” saying about you? Put away the judgement for a moment and think about it. I’m so sure they have incredible stories to tell about how amazing you are.

So will you do it? Will you put away the judgement and open yourself up to remembering how great you truly are?

I challenge you!

Every day going forward, take a look at yourself after getting out of the bath or shower. Just look. 2-3 minutes of just looking and seeing yourself in the raw. You may think doing this will set you back and turn you off, but believe me….it won’t.
