As women, we’ve all been there: You open your closet and realize there’s more clothes in there that don’t fit than those that do. When you’re working your dieting mindset, it’s important to kick all those things to the curb that drain your energy and make you feel crappy about yourself.
A bedroom closet full of frumpy, old clothes that don’t fit (or look lousy on you) is one of those things.
So today I have 3 things you can do to put a plug in that energy drain. Because a messy closet full of old, unattractive clothes has no business being in your life, especially if you’re working on creating one that’s healthier and happier (from the inside out!).
There’s nothing NEW about these tips. You’ve likely heard them before. But what a good reminder, especially this time of the year when we’re getting ready for a new start to a new year!
3 things to do RIGHT NOW:
- Donate those clothes! The truth of the matter is that we only wear 20% of our clothes 80% of the time. It’s a great likelihood that you have way more than you need in that bedroom closet of yours, especially if there’s a menagerie of sizes in there. It’s time to get rid of those items that are too big or too small (even those things that fit, but you haven’t worn in over a year). Believe me, you’ll feel so much better once they’re gone because you can now have more room for things that jazz you up! Which leads me to the next tip…
- Keep only what fits and jazzes you up! When you open your closet, you want to feel happy, inspired and stress-free. That’s why you only want to include the clothes, shoes and accessories that fit and jazz you up when you wear them. No more “Well, this will do…”. From now on, it’s either a “Heck yeah!” or “Um, NO!”. No in between.
- Find a stylist! Many people may cringe at this, but I’m a total believer in learning from others. If you can’t afford to work 1:1 with a stylist, find a fashion design student or intern that would be happy to give you tips and pointers. Or you can do like I did and take an online style course. This helps to build confidence, which is a crucial part of your health and wellness journey!
So you may be wondering what your closet has to do with dieting? Although it’s not directly related to the food you eat, it’s directly related to how you feel about yourself, right here, right now. There’s no time to waste in this lifetime, which means you don’t need to waste time (and energy) holding onto clothes that don’t fit. Also, when you’re wearing clothes that fit well and look fabulous on, you’re more confident and empowered in your daily walk.
No number on the scale can trump a confident woman.
